A Bite off The Big Apple

The Resume of Tim McClelland: Not Good

  1. Called out George Brett on a home run because he had pine tar on his bat above the limit. Call was reversed and game was replayed because McClelland had the rule wrong.
  2. Called out Nick Swisher on a sac fly. Replay showed that not only did Nick Swisher NOT leave the base early, but McClelland wasn’t even looking anywhere near Swisher’s foot or the bag.
  3. Missed double play call at third base. Cano and Posada were both clearly tagged out when not on the base and McClelland called only Posada out.
Because of McClellands history and experience, players have a lot of respect for him as an umpire. But if you look at his history, as I just outlined here, he has missed calls that are extremely easy and has not been an effective umpire. Either McClelland needs to retire, or MLB needs to look into him, because he is WAY off.
